Lira District Cooperatives Showcase Soya Value-Added Products at National Agribusiness Roundtable in Kampala Kampala, Uganda | 23 October 2026

Lira District Local Government is participating in a Public–Private Sector Roundtable Discussion on Food Security and Job Creation at the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) in Kampala, with a focus on empowering women and youth through agribusiness entrepreneurship, skills development and access to economic opportunities.
The district is represented by two farmer cooperatives, Te-Adwong Adwong Oil Seed Farmers Cooperative and Gomi, under the leadership of the district's Tourist Officer. Ms. Akullu Christine, Chairperson of Te-Adwong Adwong Oil Seed Farmers Cooperative, is among the participants attending the engagement.
The discussions, organised by CARE Uganda, are being held under the theme “Empowering Women and Youth through Inclusive Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Skills Development and Access to Economic Opportunities.” The engagement provides a platform for stakeholders from the public and private sectors to explore opportunities for improving food security, promoting entrepreneurship and creating sustainable employment.
During the discussions, the participating cooperatives are exhibiting value-added products, including organic soya seeds and soya flour. The exhibition demonstrates the potential of agricultural value addition to increase farmers' incomes, expand market opportunities and strengthen local enterprise development.
The participation contributes to TILED outputs under Trade Promotion, Cooperative Development and Agro-tourism activities. It also reflects Lira District Local Government's commitment to strengthening farmer cooperatives, promoting locally produced products and supporting women and youth to participate meaningfully in agribusiness.
Through such engagements, Lira District continues to promote agricultural commercialisation, value addition and partnerships that can stimulate economic growth and improve livelihoods among farming communities.
Lira District Local Government remains committed to promoting cooperatives, agribusiness innovation and inclusive economic development.
